How is quota typically set for AEs?
5x to 6x fully-loaded comp. So an AE costing $250K all-in carries a $1.25M to $1.5M quota. Below 5x and the comp model is too generous; above 7x and reps churn.
What's a healthy quota attainment rate?
60 to 70 percent of reps hitting full quota in a healthy org. Below 40 percent suggests quotas are too high or pipeline isn't supporting them; above 80 percent suggests they're too low.
Should quotas be flat or ramped for new hires?
Always ramped. A 4 to 6 month ramp to full quota is standard. Setting flat quotas for new hires guarantees first-quarter misses and rep churn. The ramp is what makes the comp model work for both sides.
How are quotas changing with AI in the loop?
Higher per-rep quotas in many orgs (because AI extends rep productivity) but with tighter targeting (fewer accounts per rep). Net: same total team quota, fewer reps, better tooling. The transition is happening unevenly.
