Frequently asked questions
What's NAICS used for in B2B sales?
NAICS is the standard taxonomy for filtering target accounts by what they actually do, used widely in North American B2B sales segmentation. Most major data providers tag accounts with NAICS at the 4 or 6 digit level.
NAICS or SIC. Which should I use?
NAICS. SIC is the older standard and is being phased out. Some legacy systems still report SIC but every modern data platform supports NAICS and that's where industry coverage is best.
How granular should NAICS targeting be?
4-digit NAICS for most B2B targeting (gives you ~300 industries); 6-digit when you need to separate, say, life insurance from health insurance. 2-digit is too broad for almost any targeting use case.
What if a company has multiple NAICS codes?
Use the primary NAICS for segmentation and the secondary codes for inclusion filters. A company classified primarily as software but with secondary codes in financial services is still a software company for ICP purposes.
Does Landbase let you filter accounts by NAICS?
Yes. Through the web app or the CLI. Teams typically filter to 3 to 6 NAICS codes for a given target list and combine with company-size and stage filters.
