Chief Executive Officer
Broccoli AI says in a July 2026 job listing that it reached more than $20 million in annual recurring revenue in under two years and is only now hiring its first Head of Marketing. At many venture-backed startups, founders and sales carry the early story until traction and a new round justify a dedicated marketing leader.
A first marketing leader hire is one of the clearer buying signals in B2B. The new leader usually picks agencies, a marketing automation and analytics stack, intent and contact data, and events and PR support within months.
This list ranks venture-backed startups that posted a Head of Marketing, VP of Marketing or CMO role in the last 90 days while showing no current marketing leader in Landbase people data, ordered by 12-month headcount growth. The title uses "CMO" for length, but the list covers all three titles.
Every company on the list had to meet four criteria:
Most companies showing the signal had exactly one matching posting, so the ranking is by 12-month headcount growth among companies showing the signal rather than by posting count.
Job postings measure open requisitions in Landbase's job-posting index over 90 days. Roles can be reposted or filled quickly and people data can lag, so the signal shows intent rather than a confirmed hire. Two higher-growth candidates were removed because one lists a role reporting to an existing CMO and the other has a fractional CMO in place, and a third because a corporate publisher became its majority shareholder.

First, the listings are explicit. Broccoli, Tutor, Mythic, Mosaic and Venn describe the role as the company's first marketing leader or first marketing hire, Convex says its founders have been acting CMOs, and Model ML describes building the function from zero. Only Neural Concept's CMO inherits an established team.
Second, the hire usually follows a round. Nine of the ten companies announced a round between November 2025 and August 2026, and most postings appeared in August and September 2026. The companies are not all early: Model ML, Mythic, Neural Concept, Convex and Yoodli each raised $40 million or more in their latest round, and Broccoli reports more than $20 million in ARR.
Third, the buyers are specialized. The list sells to trade contractors, manufacturers, banks, pharma dealmakers, private equity firms, chip buyers and engineering teams, so the incoming leader typically needs vertical contact data and events rather than broad awareness spend.
For GTM teams, a first marketing leader posting is more useful when paired with funding, headcount growth, sales leadership hiring and data enrichment than when read alone. Related Landbase rankings cover startups hiring their first VP of Sales and AI startups adding headcount fastest.
All ten go-to-market hiring signals in this series are collected in GTM Hiring Signals to Watch in 2026.
The ranking in this article was built from Landbase job-posting and people data. A search matched recent marketing leader postings against people data showing no current marketing leader, filtered by employee count and funding, and ranked the results by headcount growth.
Landbase's web and CLI interfaces access the same account, datasets, and saved work.
For more complex requirements, the Advanced Dataset Creator supports filters, calculations, and custom output fields.
Landbase's data infrastructure includes more than 800 million contacts and more than 40 million companies across more than 1,500 fields, with enrichment from more than 20 providers.
A first marketing leader workflow could, for example, find Series A and B companies with 20 to 300 employees that posted a Head of Marketing, VP of Marketing or CMO role in the last 90 days and have no marketing leader on staff, then return the CEO's contact details now and flag the account when a marketing leader appears in people data.
The Landbase CLI setup supports these workflows from a standard terminal and from AI coding environments including Claude Code and Codex.
Among venture-backed startups with 20 to 300 employees, the fastest-growing companies showing the signal in Landbase data were Broccoli AI, Tutor Intelligence, Model ML, Prudentia Sciences and Mythic, followed by Neural Concept, Convex, Yoodli, Mosaic and Venn.
It usually means a founder-led or sales-led story has enough traction to need a dedicated owner, often after a new round. The incoming leader typically sets positioning, picks agencies and tools, and builds a demand plan within the first months.
They show intent, not confirmed hires. Roles can be reposted, filled quickly or removed, and people data can lag a recent hire or miss fractional and part-time leaders, so each company should be checked before outreach.
Vendors of marketing automation, intent and contact data, ABM and analytics platforms, content and design tools, PR, brand and performance agencies, and marketing recruiters.
Teams can monitor marketing leadership postings, check whether a marketing leader already exists in people data, and combine that with funding and headcount growth. Landbase supports this through job-posting and people data, enrichment, structured datasets and web and CLI workflows.
Tool and strategies modern teams need to help their companies grow.
