# Scout Lookalikes

> Quick exploration: 'who looks like these accounts?' — ranked results from pre-computed similarity in under a second.

# Scout Lookalikes

Before you build a full lookalike audience, you need to explore. "Who looks like my best 5 customers?" is a question you want answered in seconds, not minutes — and you want to see the results, not just trust a black box.

Scout Lookalikes is the fast, transparent version of lookalike discovery. Give it a few company websites and it immediately returns the 25 most similar companies with full visibility into the scoring.

## How it works

Provide one or more company websites. The system instantly looks up pre-computed similarity data for each seed and returns a ranked list showing:

* **Which companies are most similar** — ranked by confidence score
* **How many of your seeds each result matches** — a company similar to 4 of your 5 seeds is a stronger signal than one similar to just 1
* **Which seed it's most similar to** — so you can understand *why* it appeared

**What's happening under the hood**

Each company in Landbase's dataset has a pre-computed list of its most similar companies, with pairwise similarity scores. When you provide multiple seeds, the system retrieves all their similarity lists and aggregates using Root Sum Square scoring — a company moderately similar to many seeds scores higher than one very similar to just one. Results are returned in under 100 milliseconds.

## When to use it

* **Early in a workflow** — before committing to a full lookalike expansion, scout first to validate that the similar companies make sense
* **Validating ICP assumptions** — "I think our ICP is companies like these 5 — do the lookalikes confirm that pattern?"
* **Quick research** — a sales rep preparing for a call wants to know "who else is like this account?"

## How it connects to Expand Lookalikes

Scout and [Expand Lookalikes](https://www.landbase.com/docs/overview/capabilities/expand-lookalikes.md) are the same concept at different scales:

* **Scout** — fast, small (25 results), pre-computed. For exploration and validation.
* **Expand** — slower, massive (20K results), real-time computation. For production audience building.

A typical workflow starts with Scout to validate the pattern, then moves to Expand to build the full audience.

## Result limits

Default 25 results per query. Sub-100ms response time.
